The LPGA*USGA Girls Golf, committed to changing the face of golf, is making the game more welcoming to underrepresented girls and women by empowering girls ages 3-18 to dream big, build confidence, and develop their athletic abilities through practice sessions, tournaments, and family events.
In 2019, longtime local program alumni Amy Bockerstette captured the heart of the golf world, with her clutch up-and-down on one of the biggest stages in golf – the 16th hole at the WM Phoenix Open. Right on the spot, this magic moment transformed millions of minds, inspiring athletes with intellectual disabilities. Our local girl’s golf program continues to partner and support women like Amy as well as the “I GOT THIS Foundation,” an advocate for a more inclusive and enriching game for everyone.
Another LPGA*USGA Girls Golf of Phoenix alumni and tour professional Cheyenne Woods grew up in the program. She went on to be the sixth African American to play on the LPGA Tour and continues to partner with the local Phoenix chapter to highlight diversity. Woods is an important role model for all girls while helping the local organization grow the game.
“It seems so simple, but it makes such a big difference…presentation is obviously so important,” said Cheyenne Woods. “So if I can do that and show little girls – whether they’re from Phoenix or they’re brown or they’re black or just have curly hair – that they can play, then that’s awesome.”
