On this episode of the “Golf is Good for Everyone” podcast, Arizona Golf Fund’s Jock Holliman discusses the critical role played by this philanthropic arm of the Arizona golf ecosystem, with one central portal supporting all local golf nonprofits.
“The purpose of fund is to support special project costs,” said Holliman. “A lot of these charities have a hard time raising money. We’re making their mission statements a lot easier to achieve.”
Speaking on behalf of the groups on the receiving end, Brandon Rogers with the Western Golf Association and AZ Caddie and Leadership Academy reels off recent examples of the positive impacts felt by those who could use the help. Years ago, Meagan Graber was one of them. She leveraged the game of golf to overcame adversity, ultimately earning an Evans Scholarship to the University of Washington. Now she sports the title of senior manager, community relations and development for AZ GOLF. The inspiring story she tells during this interview is one of many. Everyday the game of golf gives back to the community – even to those who have never picked up a club – and the Arizona Golf Fun is right in the middle of it.
“As we recruit in the community, we always say ‘you don’t need to know how to play the game of golf in order to serve it,’” said Rogers. Likewise, you don’t need to play golf for it to serve you. Golf is good for everyone.
