Copper State Belle of the Ball
Earlier this month, Arizona was in the spotlight at the International Golf Administrators Association (IAGA) annual conference. In addition to Mary Pomroy’s well-deserved recognition and the successful rebrand of AZ GOLF, the Arizona Alliance for Golf was cited as a case study of how other states could establish robust and effective advocacy arms. The Arizona golf industry’s successful unification led by Gregg Tryhus – driving positive regulatory and policy outcomes – was of keen interest among those eager to establish their own alliances.
5th Management Plan Rollout
Beginning January 1, 2025, the 5th Management Plan takes effect for all regulated water users in Arizona, including golf. The industry only uses 2% of the state’s water, and protecting access to this humble supply is necessary to maintain golf courses as vibrant community spaces and economic drivers – the AAG’s key founding pillars. Industry cohesion is fundamental for avoiding deep cuts to the industry’s water supply, and the AAG will continue to work proactively and constructively with the state leaders on future water decisions impacting the $6 billion Arizona golf industry.
Election Cycle Roundtables
During a busy election cycle, Arizona voters weighed in on a range of races and ballot measures. Several of the local candidates and elected officials reached out to the alliance for opportunities to get in front of golf industry leaders to understand policy priorities related to the golf business. This shows great momentum for the golf industry and the communities it serves. The alliance looks forward to building on this progress to foster relationships with the full range of Arizona’s elected leaders.
