Record Turnout at Historic Randolph Golf Complex
The Tucson City Junior Golf Championship teed off at the historic Randolph Golf Complex, drawing more than 200 young golfers from 40 Arizona cities, six states, and Mexico. Founded and sponsored by the Tucson Conquistadores and organized by the Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA), the event serves as a premier platform for junior talent across multiple age divisions.
The Tucson Conquistadores’ longstanding support has been instrumental in making this championship a cornerstone of Southern Arizona junior golf for decades. Furthermore, they have been providing critical funding and resources to youth-development organizations like the First Tee – Tucson, which uses the game of golf to deliver character-building programs to local junior golfers like Catalina Foothills’ A.J. Ramos.
Strong Local Support and Community Pride
Among the local standouts, Ramos noted the friendly rivalry at the venerable tournament: “It’s fun…there’s always a little rivalry between Tucson and Phoenix, so I’m glad to come out here and represent for Tucson.”
JGAA Executive Director Scott McNevin highlighted the tournament’s importance. “It’s great when we come to Tucson because a lot of the kids from Tucson have to go up to Phoenix for most of our events, so when we come down here we get really good support from the local community…and the kids get to play in their backyard,” McNevin said.
